How I can help…

If you don’t have the time or confidence in your writing ability, I can write your book for you. As a ghostwriter, I research and write your book, but your name is on the book’s cover. My services cover everything up to a final, draft manuscript, which can then move on to the production phase of the publishing process.

If you want to write your own book, but need a plan, help with structure and some support and accountability, then I can be your book coach. Together, we will break down the overwhelm and create smaller, do-able tasks that get your book written in three to six months. Imagine the satisfaction you would feel, being able to give your loved ones a copy of your book as a gift this year! I know that you absolutely CAN do this and I will help you to make your book happen.

Ghostwriting:

How it works…

Depending on the source matter you have already, I’ll need to have more or less input from you. We would start off by meeting, face-to-face if possible or by video call if not. If there is no source material at all, like podcast transcripts, course or training materials, then we’d need to record 12-16 hours of face to face interviews initially to get started. I would then go off and write a sample chapter and come back to you. We’d discuss it, I’d take feedback on board and then set off on the rest of the book, sending you each draft, completed chapter as we go.

It’s really important to me to get to know my ghostwriting clients well and have a good understanding of your character and most importantly, your voice. I’ll be doing my utmost to write in a way that sounds as close to you as possible! However, I am not you, so you do need to be prepared for that. When you use a ghostwriter like me, you do need to relinquish some control, which I know is not always easy to do. If you are dead set on sounding exactly like yourself, then my book coaching services would be a better fit.

Who am I?

The Content Doc is me, Helen Pollock. Here’s a little story about how I came to do what I do:

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was constantly in trouble for reading books. She was so lost in reading that the outside world would cease to exist for her and she couldn’t hear her parents calling her for meals. At school, she loved writing and languages above all else. Many cold dinners later, she was looking at career options.

Having studied a post-graduate qualification in Marketing, she was drawn to Public Relations, because it offered the chance to make a living through writing.

That bookish little girl was me. PR became my career and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After having my children, I wanted to be in control of my own destiny. As a result, I started my first business, teaching Mandarin to kids. But it didn’t feel natural to me. I missed writing. In 2018 I started my own PR consultancy and soon had the chance to ghostwrite a non-fiction book for a client. I enjoyed it so much and that book became an Amazon best-seller. I had found my calling. I have since ghostwritten more books and helped other aspiring authors to write their own books, through my coaching programme.

It feels amazing to support clients to share their knowledge to help others. It’s a dream come true for me and something that my younger book-loving self could not have imagined.

Q: How soon will my book be ready?

A: I hate to say it, but that depends! It takes most people three to six months to write a non-fiction book and it’s about the same for me to ghostwrite one. If you already have a lot of your source material ready to go, like podcast transcripts, presentations or course material, then it will be sooner rather than later. We also need to be clear that this is to final, draft manuscript stage, not to a published book. Getting through to the finished, published book will take a while longer and will require the input of other publishing professionals.

Q: Do you have to be a great writer to write a book?

A: No, you don’t. It obviously helps, but with skilled support from a book coach and also a good proofreader and editor, you will be able to write a good book that is lively and engaging for your readers.
